I’m writing to remind you that tomorrow is Election Day and polls are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Many people have reached out, asking who I am supporting, so I thought I’d send a quick email to let you know and to share a few thoughts:
Hillary Clinton for President of the United States
Chris Van Hollen for U.S. Senate
Shelly Hettleman for Delegate to the Democratic National Convention
You may have noticed that I’m on the ballot – as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention for Hillary Clinton. I, and the other committed Hillary Clinton delegates, would appreciate your support.
In the U.S. Senate race to succeed Senator Barbara Mikulski. I am an enthusiastic supporter of Chris Van Hollen because I believe he will be an incredibly effective advocate for Maryland.
Chris first served in elected office in the Maryland General Assembly and was a tremendous advocate for choice, smart gun safety legislation, and the Chesapeake Bay. He also led the effort to create our state’s education funding formula.
Upon his election to Congress, Chris rose through the ranks of the House and became a leader on fiscal issues, taking on Wall Street, protecting students from unscrupulous lenders, ensuring that Big Oil wouldn’t drill off Ocean City, fending off attacks on Social Security and Medicare and helping to make health care accessible to all.
Chris is a progressive, and yet he understands that in order to make change, there are times when one has to work across the aisle to get things done. There is no question in my mind that Chris is the best person for the job.
In this cringe-worthy campaign season, in debate after debate, Hillary Clinton has demonstrated her mastery of complex domestic and international issues. She has been an incredible advocate for families, children, and women through her work at the Children’s Defense Fund, as First Lady, and in the U.S. Senate where she worked to expand health insurance coverage, childcare, family leave, and women’s rights. Hillary has credibility on the world stage and her experience as Secretary of State demonstrated her capacity to be an effective world leader.
If you have a few hours and want to volunteer for either Chris or Hillary tomorrow at a polling place in the 11th district, or anywhere, please respond to this email and we’ll get you signed up.
Regardless of whether you agree with my thoughts, it’s still incredibly important to vote. Please take a moment to make a plan to vote tomorrow. If you’re not sure where you vote, you can click here to find out.
Thanks very much for your consideration of Chris Van Hollen for U.S. Senate and for Hillary Clinton for President – and for me as a Delegate for Hillary.
I hope our paths will cross on Election Day!
